Engine and airframe monitoring functions

The GEA 71 can accept signals associated with exhaust-gas temperature, cylinder-head temperature, oil pressure, oil temperature, fuel flow, fuel quantity, manifold pressure, engine speed, electrical current and voltage, doors, pitot heat and other configured aircraft indications. These examples describe the unit's interface capability; they do not mean that every installation uses every input.

Garmin identifies 18 differential analog inputs, 12 engine-temperature analog inputs, 23 discrete inputs and 12 digital inputs. Four analog channels can support high-side current monitoring. The unit also provides four discrete annunciator outputs and sensor-excitation outputs at +5, +10 and +12 V DC within the published current limits. The final set of monitored parameters is established by the approved configuration for the aircraft.

Connection with the Garmin integrated flight deck

Two RS-485 channels connect the GEA 71 with compatible GIA 63 or GIA 63W Integrated Avionics Units. The GIAs carry the processed engine and airframe information to Garmin display units. In a typical installation the multifunction display presents the main engine-instrument page, while primary flight displays can show alerts and selected engine or airframe data, including during an approved reversionary mode.

All electrical connections are made through two 78-pin D-subminiature connectors. Garmin lists a dedicated rack, backplate, connector kits, configuration module and optional thermocouple kit as separately identified installation items. These accessories are not assumed to be included with this product unless they are specifically stated in the quotation. Harness construction and pin assignments must follow the approved installation drawings.
