BPS-47 Series 5
Anti-Surge Unit
Description
BPS-47 Series 5 anti-surge system unit
BPS-47 Series 5, marked in Cyrillic as БПС-47 серии 5, is documented in aviation component listings as an anti-surge system block. The unit belongs to an aircraft engine protection and control chain. Series 5 is retained in the product name because it identifies the execution required for correct ordering and maintenance.

BPS-47 Series 5 functional context
Anti-surge equipment is intended to address airflow instability in a gas-turbine compressor. The documented BPS-47 chain combines the electronic block with a surge sensor, KRPS command equipment and an AOT fuel-cutoff actuator. General information about the event is available under compressor stall; the block must be treated as one system component rather than a stand-alone detector.
Aircraft and cooperating equipment
Maintenance material confirms that BPS-47 and KRPS-55 equipment was installed on MiG-23M aircraft, and technical discussion describes the MiG-23 protection response through short fuel interruptions and protective-start logic. This supports the MiG-23 family context. It does not, however, provide a verified Series 5 effectivity list, so the aircraft modification and engine documentation remain decisive.
Difference from Series 4
BPS-47 Series 4 and Series 5 are related versions, not automatically interchangeable products. A change of series may correspond to revised circuitry, thresholds, connector assignment or system compatibility. Do not replace one by the other on the basis of appearance or abbreviation. Verify the complete plate, drawing number, connectors, aircraft modification and engine documentation.
Inspection and enquiry
Check the housing, fasteners, connector contacts, seals and readable markings before bench work. Testing requires the approved procedure and known supply and signal pins. The enquiry should state the complete designation, aircraft and engine reference, quantity, condition and document requirements. Related engine electronics are available in Electronic Control Units.
