AZS-40
Aircraft Circuit Breaker
Description
AZS-40: 5–50 A family, 40 A execution
AZS-40 is a single-pole DC circuit breaker with a rated current of 40 A. The AZS series combines a manual switch with a thermobimetallic protective element and is intended to disconnect a consumer during overload or short-circuit conditions. Specified series data specifies a nominal voltage of 27 ±2.7 V DC and operation in circuits up to 30 V. The Cyrillic marking on an original unit is АЗС-40.

Construction and series data
The AZS mechanism is described as having no free trip. The positive conductor is connected to the fixed contact, so terminal orientation must be checked against the applicable wiring and maintenance data. Series values include a maximum mass of 90 g, contact voltage drop up to 180 mV at rated current, insulation withstand of 500 V AC at 50 Hz for one minute, and operation in any spatial position.
Environmental series data states an ambient range from −60 to +50 °C, relative humidity up to 98% at +25 °C, vibration from 10 to 300 Hz at acceleration up to 7g, and repeated-shock resistance up to 10g. These are reference values for the family and must be checked against the passport of the actual item, especially where an aircraft installation imposes a particular climatic execution or acceptance requirement.
Selecting the AZS-40 execution
AZS-40 is identified by its 40 A rated-current marking. The reviewed technical tables associate the higher-current execution with a 25–80 s interval at twice rated current. This time-current datum is useful for identification, but final acceptance still requires the actual passport and the circuit protection schedule; AZS-40 must not be selected only because its body and mounting resemble another AZS rating.
Related catalog entries AZS-30 and AZS-50 are provided for comparison and navigation. They have different rated currents and are not presented as interchangeable substitutes.
Inspection and technical data basis
Before supply or installation, compare the complete marking, rated current, terminal condition, mounting points and housing with the removed unit. Check for cracks, overheating, corrosion, loose hardware or damaged threads. Electrical acceptance should follow TU16-526.015-73, the product passport and approved equipment documentation rather than a visual match alone.
A general explanation of this device class is available in the Wikipedia article on circuit breakers. More executions are listed in the Circuit Breakers category.
