Air-cooled generator triode
Description
Purpose
GU-56 is a high-power generator triode for RF generation and power amplification in stationary industrial high-frequency heating equipment and other radio-frequency systems. The data sheet specifies operation at frequencies up to 45 MHz. This is a metal-glass tube with an external finned anode radiator rather than a small receiving tube.

Construction and cooling
Its directly heated cathode is made from carbonized thoriated tungsten. The anode has a large radial radiator that requires forced-air cooling. The tube is installed vertically with the anode down. Both the air path and the electrode connections are part of the installation, so the physical housing and cooling hardware must be checked together with the model designation.
Technical data
Nominal heater voltage is 6.3 V and heater current is specified as 21.5–26.5 A. The maximum anode voltage is 3.5 kV, maximum anode dissipation is 700 W, and RF oscillatory output at 40 MHz is at least 1 kW under the specified conditions. Maximum height is 280 mm, diameter 161 mm and mass 4 kg. These figures describe the tube limits and reference test conditions, not a universal operating point.
Selection
Compare the GU-56 marking, finned radiator, ring terminals, mounting position, heater supply and air-cooling capacity with the equipment documentation. A cooling failure or wrong electrode connection can damage the tube. Similar tubes with a different cooling method or electrode layout are not direct replacements without circuit-level verification.
