AF1-150 is an aircraft ferrodynamic AC ammeter used for monitoring current in onboard alternating-current electrical systems. The instrument is installed on the cockpit or equipment panel and works only together with an external current transformer, usually TF1 or TF2. The main current does not pass through the ammeter itself. The transformer reduces the measured current to a suitable signal for the indicator, which allows the crew or maintenance personnel to monitor AC load without routing heavy power conductors to the panel.
In operation, the AF1-150 receives its measuring signal from the external transformer installed in the controlled AC line. The scale shows the current consumed by the connected equipment or supplied through the selected circuit. This setup is used in aircraft systems with 400 Hz AC power, where direct measurement at the instrument panel would be impractical. If indication is absent or incorrect, the fault may be in the ammeter, TF1 / TF2 transformer, wiring, terminals, or the monitored AC circuit.
The AF1-150 ammeter is used in aircraft and helicopter AC power systems, including installations found on Mi-8 type helicopters. It may be connected to generator output circuits, converter-fed AC buses, or separate consumer lines depending on the aircraft wiring diagram. The instrument does not regulate current and does not protect the circuit. It only provides visual current indication. For this reason, replacement should be checked against the aircraft electrical diagram and transformer type.
AF1-150 is made as a compact round-section panel instrument for recessed mounting. The body is steel and splash-protected, which is typical for cockpit instruments used in aviation environments. Some versions may have the “K” index, indicating built-in red lighting for night operation. The instrument is built for operation under vibration and normal aircraft acceleration loads. During inspection, the scale, pointer movement, case condition, terminals and lighting circuit should be checked.
Before ordering AF1-150, the marking should be compared with the aircraft instrument list, electrical diagram and installed current transformer type. The ammeter must match the transformer and the measuring range. A visually similar indicator with a different scale or transformer ratio can give incorrect readings. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, required range, transformer type and a photo of the existing instrument if available. The product is also known under alternative designations AF1-150, АФ1-150, AF1-150K and АФ1-150К.
