Lead-Acid Battery
Out of stock
The 12-SAM-28P is an aircraft lead-acid starter battery used in onboard DC power systems. It is intended for aircraft and helicopter applications where an autonomous electrical source is required for engine starting, ground operation, or emergency supply. The battery works as part of the onboard 24 V DC network and can supply current when the main electrical sources are not available. In typical aircraft use, this kind of battery is connected with starter circuits, DC busbars, switching equipment, charging circuits, and emergency consumers.
The battery is used to support autonomous engine starting and short-term power supply of onboard equipment. On helicopters such as Mi-8, batteries of this type may be used when external power is not connected or when the onboard generators are not yet operating. In emergency conditions, the battery can keep selected DC consumers powered for a limited time, depending on the aircraft electrical scheme and actual battery condition. It should not be treated as a replacement for the main generator system. Its role is reserve and starting power.
The designation gives a useful technical description of the battery. "12" refers to the number of connected cells in the battery. "SAM" identifies the unit as a starter aviation monoblock battery. "28" indicates the nominal capacity rating. The letter "P" refers to the polypropylene battery case. This marking is important during procurement because similar aircraft batteries may have close dimensions or voltage class but different capacity, case material, terminal arrangement, or service documentation.
In an aircraft DC system, the 12-SAM-28P works together with battery contactors, protection devices, charging circuits, DC distribution buses, external power connection circuits, and cockpit indication. If the battery does not support start or the voltage drops too quickly, the cause is not always the battery alone. Maintenance checks usually include charge condition, electrolyte status where applicable, terminal condition, cable connections, charging system operation, and load demand. Battery replacement should follow the aircraft maintenance manual and battery service documentation.
Before ordering, the installed battery designation should be checked against the aircraft parts catalog, maintenance documentation, or battery compartment requirements. The 12-SAM-28P may be supplied in a dry-charged condition, depending on supply terms and storage requirements, and commissioning must be carried out according to approved battery documentation. For a clear request, it is useful to specify the aircraft type, required condition, documentation, and whether electrolyte is included or excluded from supply. The product is also known under alternative designation 12-САМ-28П.
