Radio Altimeter System
Available on back-order
RV-5MD1 is a modernized airborne radio altimeter designed to provide continuous, real-time measurement of true aircraft height above ground or water during low-altitude flight.
The system operates on the principle of continuous-wave radar transmission and reception, processing reflected signals to compute accurate altitude independent of barometric pressure or terrain variations.
Compared to earlier RV-5M models, the RV-5MD1 incorporates functional upgrades including improved signal filtering, refined reliability logic, and the capability to output compatible data into broader avionics architectures.
In particular, RV-5MD1 versions equipped with the PP-5M1D1 transceiver support integration with collision-avoidance and surveillance systems (TCAS/RA interoperability), enabling distribution of height data outside the local indicator loop.
The RV-5MD1 system provides:
• display of true radio altitude on a dedicated cockpit indicator;
• adjustable Danger Height presets with light annunciation;
• FAIL/INOP indication;
• altitude-triggered pulse outputs;
• automatic built-in test support;
• continuous operation at low altitude in varied terrain.
A complete RV-5MD1 installation typically includes:
— PP-5M1D1 transmitter-receiver unit,
— two AR5-1 antennas,
— UV-5M cockpit altitude indicator,
— RA-5 shock-mount frame,
— aircraft interconnection cabling and documentation.
The system is used on helicopters and aircraft and provides pilots with reliable and independent altitude data for safe low-altitude operations.
